Norman Pattiz and His Interview with Ideamensch

Norman Pattiz is a force to reckon. He has managed to shake the US economy, owning some of the biggest companies in the country. He is the owner of a leading radio and media network, Westwood One, based in the United States. Through the company, he has managed to win contract to serve some of the sharks in the US market including CNN Network and the Super Bowl.

In addition to Westwood One, Norman Pattiz owns Podcast One. This is the leading advertising agency in the country. The Podcast airs more than 200 podcasts and they recently announced that they would be introducing the Beyond Darkness podcast. Since Podcast One was established in the year 2012, Pattiz has been acting as the founder and chairman.

Other than founding a series of companies that have been so successful, Pattiz has had the opportunity to work for the Government. He was appointed twice by President Clinton to serve on the Broadcasting Board of Governors. He also serves at a local university, University of California, where he is the Regent.

Last year December, Ideamensch had the opportunity to interview this wildly successful businessman. The very first question during the interview was where he got the idea to start Podcast One. He said that it all started out when he was connected with Kit Gray. Back then he had just left Westwood One and was looking for other opportunities. Having decades of experience in the entertainment industry, he was intrigued by the idea of digitalizing what he had already being doing for the longest time. Lifting the company from one operated from an apartment, today it is the leading advertising company under podcasts.

From the interview, you can tell that Pattiz is a very humble man. He mentioned that he has an assistant but that he makes sure he is involved in every aspect of the business running. He advises other entrepreneurs to not be afraid of hard work. For you to be successful, you have to work harder than everyone else. Get to the office before your employees and also leave late. This goes a long way to keeping your employees motivated.

Pattiz mentioned that his successful life has been influenced by people like Dan Miller, who was his very first boss. He also learnt a lot from Steve Ross and Bill Paley.
